Week 1 – Tuesday, July 21 – Thursday, July 23, 11am – 3pm
Week 2 – Tuesday, July 28 – Thursday, July 30, 11am – 3pm
Week 3 – Tuesday, August 4 – Thursday, August 6 (Pioneer Square’s First Thursday), 11am – 3pm w/ flexed hours for First Thursday in the evening
Compensation: $22.00 per hour
Where: Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park – Seattle in Pioneer Square (319 2nd Ave S, Seattle, WA 98104)

For 2026, In My Backyard will be a three-week summer internship designed for high school students who desire to learn about the National Park Service through hands-on interpretation. The internship focuses on building skills in public speaking, research, teamwork, and professional responsibility. In My Backyard interns (also known as IMBYs), will work collaboratively with park staff, park partners, and each other to design and deliver an interpretive program connected to Klondike’s 50th Anniversary. The internship culminates in a Public Showcase during Pioneer Square’s First Thursday Art Walk in August (August 6, 2026) where IMBYs will present their interpretive program to park audiences.

In partnership with Discover Your Northwest, we are excited to continue to offer this program created by and for youth and young adults in the Seattle area.
As an In My Backyard summer intern, you will:
- Join a three-week internship exploring the National Park Service through hands-on interpretation
- Build skills in public speaking, research, teamwork, and professionalism
- Work with park staff to create and present your own interpretive program celebrating Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park’s 50th Anniversary
- Share your program during a Public Showcase at Pioneer Square’s First Thursday on August 6, 2026
